In the very heart of the conservation area of the village of Seix, adjacent to the ancient presbytery and the chapel of Notre-Dame de Pitié, the former curate’s garden, replanted and brought back to life by volunteers from our Association, is opening its doors to the public throughout the summer season.
A floral haven, where you can observe natural riches at leisure; the flowers, shrubs, vegetables…
Beyond the high stone walls discover a choice selection of plants, and marvel at the arbour of old roses adorning the presbytery walls.
This garden generates its own natural world and micro-ecology: the constant to and fro of birds, the hum of insects as they visit the many flowers, the furtive scuttle of lizards and beetles as they disappear into the vegetation on the old walls.
Enjoy a stroll round, take in the atmosphere, find out more from our volunteers about the properties of the plants, and if the mood takes you, pop in to the permanent exhibition on the history and uses of flax, situated on the ground floor of the presbytery.
Towards the back of the garden you will find a fascinating museum of old tools and artefacts which bring to life the work and customs of former times, and, before you leave don’t forget to visit the little garden shop and pick up a souvenir to take back for friends and family.
In addition to thee garden, you may care to visit the ancient chapel of Notre- Dame de Pitié just next door; it is currently undergoing restoration, but you will not fail to be surprised by its extent, its fine baroque altar-piece, its C18 confessionals and the remarkable side-chapels.
The more the merrier! We will delighted to welcome you to this captivating corner.
